Cell B.E. resources at UPPMAX

Cell Broadband Engine resources

UPPMAX currently have two Cell/B.E based clusters. One IBM blade center with two QS22 blades and one cluster of eight Playstation3s.

The CELL processor

The CELL processor is a heterogeneous multicore processor with two different types of cores. One type, the PPE, is based on the PowerPC architecture and the other one is the Synergetic Processing Element (SPE). The benefit of this architecture is that high performance can be gained with a bit of programming effort. For more information about the CELL processor see http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/power/cell/
